The California State Assembly will honor late Morgan Hill Life publisher Marty Cheek by adjourning the Jan. 23 session in his honor, according to Assemblymember Gail Pellerin.

“Marty was not only a gifted journalist but also a deeply cherished community advocate who devoted his career to uplifting the spirit of South County,” Pellerin said. “To honor his remarkable legacy and the outpouring of love our community expressed at the time of his passing, I am honored to share his story on the Assembly Floor…celebrating his life and highlighting the profound impact he had on our district.”

Cheek, who died in September, co-founded Morgan Hill Life with Robert Airoldi in 2012. Airoldi joined the Times and New SV Media team this month as publisher.

“I am pleased that Assemblymember Gail Pellerin chose to honor Marty Cheek in this way,” Airoldi said. “Marty was an integral part of South Valley and we are glad his legacy of community journalism is being celebrated.”

Also joining the New SV Media team is Mark Fenichel, former sales manager of Morgan Hill Life and a longtime colleague of Cheek’s. Fenichel is now New SV Media’s Advertising Manager.
