(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Evan Low (D-Silicon Valley) was joined at a State Capitol news conference by sexual assault survivors and allies to urge support today for the Rape Kit Backlog Contribution Fund, the Sexual Assault Survivor Bill of Rights and the Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence Reporting Act, three bills pending in the California State Legislature to help survivors receive the justice they deserve. “Justice delayed is justice denied,” said Assemblymember Low, author of Assembly Bill 280, the Rape Kit Backlog Contribution Fund. “Survivors of sexual assault who endure the hours-long rape kit exam process do so with the hope that it will bring their perpetrator to justice. Yet thousands of these kits sit untested throughout California. We must take action now to ensure critical pieces of evidence are not left behind.” Learn more in this Assembly Access video.
