SACRAMENTO—Assemblymember Evan Low (D-Silicon Valley) introduced AB 2020 today, which would prohibit taxpayers from funding or reimbursing state employees’ travel and lodging expenses at businesses owned by current or former Presidents of the United States.

The Domestic Emolument Clause (Article II, Section 1, Clause 7) prohibits the President from receiving any compensation from federal or state governments other than their salary.  However, President Donald Trump has reportedly made millions of dollars from his hotel properties since taking office.

SACRAMENTO—Assemblymember Evan Low (D-Silicon Valley) introduced a bill this week that would require dentists to conduct an in-person examination of their patients prior to approving a treatment plan for clear aligners or other orthodontics.  The bill would effectively prohibit internet companies from offering direct-to-consumer products to Californians until legislation is passed to inform consumers and establish parameters for how teleorthodontics companies may operate.

ACA 8 passed the Assembly Elections Committee and gained 21 new co-authors.

SACRAMENTO—Assembly Constitutional Amendment (ACA) 8 by Assemblymember Evan Low (D-Silicon Valley), which would lower the voting age in California to 17-years-old, passed the Assembly Elections & Redistricting Committee last Wednesday.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY— Assemblymember Evan Low (D-Silicon Valley) honored West Valley Community Services (WVCS) as Assembly District 28’s Nonprofit of the Year this week. The nonprofit organization was founded in 1973 and has served the west valley region of Santa Clara County ever since.

SACRAMENTO—Legislation authored by Assemblymember Evan Low (D-Silicon Valley) to make Election Day a holiday in California passed the Assembly Committee on Elections and Redistricting by a vote of 5-2. Assembly Bill 177 would establish a state holiday on the first Tuesday in November of each statewide or national election year.
